A message from the Special Minister of being Un-Australian…

When is a lobbyist not a lobbyist?…

When it is a small media company hired for propaganda purposes of course!!

prop·a·gan·da
ˌpräpəˈɡandə/
noun
noun: propaganda; noun: Propaganda
  1. 1.
    derogatory
information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.
“he was charged with distributing enemy propaganda”

Social media does have a few faults, shocked you are but it is true.

One of them is that a propagandist, a person or people who are paid to influence opinion, can create social media pages, easily, to promote a particular political agenda and spin on events, anonymously. Why is that an issue? Because they are trying to manipulate us and they are being sneaky about it.

As an example, The government of the day, could pay a private media company to promote their agenda in a particular electorate, ie make the government look good to the people in that electorate. That media company would not be answerable to anybody because they are neither a lobbyist nor a government spokesperson.

There are rules about what the governments can say to us, I.E. they have to tell the truth. They have to be responsible for what they say and at the end of each advertisement they need to have a disclaimer,  “spoken by …. authorized by the Minister for…” so we the electorate, know what is what and said by who and it can be checked.

There are rules about who and how people are paid to influence the government,  they are called, lobbyist. Whats a lobbyist? “Lobbyist” means any person, company or organization who conducts lobbying activities on behalf of a third party client. Read more  here

They have to follow a code of conduct which is a good thing if… “In performing this role, Lobbyists and Government Affairs Directors have a duty to act ethically, transparently, according to the highest standards of professional conduct and in accordance with probity requirements” More here

Clever little media companies have no such rules to follow. Especially if they are employed by the government of the day.

So how can you tell if a social media post is propaganda? There are a few things you can spot easily :-

  • they make a political party sound like they care about an issue in a way that makes you feel good about the story they are feeding you.
  • there will be pictures of cute animals in a way that makes you feel good about the story they are feeding you.
  • there will be pictures of cute children in a way that makes you feel good about the story they are feeding you.
  • there will be of pictures very handsome men and beautiful young women in the post that makes you feel good about the story they are feeding you.
  • This is the key indicator, you CAN NOT find out who wrote the post or started the page no matter how hard you try.

Why is this important?

Simply put, They are being lying, manipulative, condescending, smart arses, who think we are too stupid to spot what they are up too, so we we will do as they want. Screw them that just UN-Australian.

This post is part of the “My Wannon Electorate Project”. The Democratic process is a two way street. We in Australia are obliged to vote for federal, state and local governments. This is my way to engage with the people who are elected to represent me in the various tiers of Government. @3373 @DanTehan ‪@Louisestanley‬ ‪@MichaelOConnor‬ #3373 #DanTehan ‪#‎Louisestanley‬ ‪#‎MichaelOConnor‬ I hope you do the same because by talking to each other, we can understand each other better and make our world a better place
